In the fall of 2004, an ad hoc committee of the Leeds Historical Society did a makeover of the city council chambers at the Leeds Civic Center. THe makeover included the following:
- Carpenter Henry Johnson built a new council table.
Black chairs were purchased for council members.
Leeds Historical Society members located missing photos of former mayors and had them framed. The photos now hang on one wall of the chambers. Black leather council chairs were purchased by the city.
A framed copy of the city seal hangs on the second wall, and on the third wall are reprints of famous paintings depicting the beginning of a democratic nation.
The walls in the council chambers were painted a soft green. A carpet runner, urn stands with ferns and a new flag stand completed the project.
The makeover was paid for in part by the John and Della Robert Charitable Trust. |
