Rowan Oaks Historical Home (circa 1904), at 1900 Montevallo Road in Leeds, is located on the original site of land purchased by Cahaba Valley early settler Thomas Rowan in 1846. Rowan took up residence on the land and cultivated it from the mid-Nineteenth Century.
The home's subtle blend of simplicity, charm and elegance are reminders of a bygone era. That ambience has been balanced with comforts and conveniences of modernization to make the home useful for civic and private events.
The home features pine floors, authenticly restored woodwork, handcrafted stained glass and period antique furnishings as well as family heirlooms and accessories. It has been modernized with central heating and air conditioning and a full-service kitchen, while preserving the charm and atmosphere of the Rowan Homestead.
Rowan Oaks Historical Home was dedicated on April 22, 2000, to be used for meetings, weddings and other special events.
The house is on the register of the Jefferson County Historical Preservation Commission with Alabama Landmarks Heritage. The Leeds Historical Society erected a state historic marker at the site.
